Pieces of Us... | ||||||
Back from the Trip... - Saturday, July 30, 2005 I'm back from my trip. It was great getting away for a few days and this trip was much better than most because I wasn't in charge! Yippee!! Don't get me wrong, I still had to work, but it wasn't like the entire conference was MY responsibility, so it was a bit more relaxing. You know the only thing that sucks when your away for a few days is when you get back and you have like 2 million emails and 500 voice mails to catch up on. I was planning on returning from the trip, working a full day on Thursday and then taking Friday off as comp time. Well that ended up not happening. But at least I will get an extra day off later. So things went really well at the conference. It was in Wilmington. I had never been to Wilmington before, so it was something new for me. We got there Sunday night and had a nice dinner at a place where the name escapes me at the moment, but it was right on the riverwalk. So we had dinner with the mosquitos on the river. It would have been nice if we hadn't of been eaten alive by the mosquitos. I went back to the hotel and relaxed for the rest of the evening. I don't get to do that very often with two little ones in the house. It was cool because the hotel had those Tempur-Pedic mattress and they were heaven! My back always hurts when I get up in the morning and after sleeping on that mattress my back was fine in the morning. I came home and immediately went to the Tempur-Pedic website to find out how much they cost. I had every intention of purchasing us one until I saw a king size was like $2,800. Jesus H. Christ! So much for that! Monday was a very busy day because it was the first day of the conference. We had about 192 people registered from 5 states: North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia & Alabama. Everyone but 1 person showed up, so it was really well attended. It wasn't like our yearly convention where we have about 1500 people. This was just a small meeting. So after we had everyone checked in, things ran pretty smoothly the rest of the day. Monday evening the entire group took a dinner cruise on the Henrietta III down the Cape Fear River. It was pretty cool, but the dinner took forever. The cruise was 3/4 of the way over before we were even served our dinner. The food was decent considering they were serving about 200 people at once. But I definately was not impressed with the service. After our dinner cruise about 10 of us went to Kilwin's for some ice cream. Kilwin's has the best ice cream, in my opinion, second only to Cold Stone Creamery, of course. Tuesday was pretty relaxing because we only had to work the conference until 2:00. So after that my friend Sam and I (Sam is short for Samantha) went on a "road trip." Sam used to live in Wilmington and various other towns around the area. So we decided to head to Carolina Beach to see some old houses she used to live in and let her take a "trip down memory lane" so to speak. We drove by a few houses they used to live in, but most of them had been torn down. After visiting Carolina Beach we headed on down to Kure Beach and Fort Fisher. Fort Fisher was apparently the last major strong hold of the confederacy during the Civil War. After our visits to the beaches, we then decided to get even more adventurous and took a road trip all the way down to Myrtle Beach, SC. Now I've been to Myrtle Beach many times in my life, but the last few times I have been there it has been with conventions for work, so I don't even get to set one little toe out on the beach because I am so damn busy. So it was nice to spend a few hours there and not actually having to work! We decided we would go eat at Broadway at the Beach. For those of you who have never been there (including myself), it is totally awesome! I can't even begin to describe it. You'll just have to look at their website for yourself. The only problem was it was over 100 degrees and the heat index was about 115. So we didn't feel like walking around and ate at Senor Frogs. I've actually ate at the Senor Frogs in Cancun, Mexico before. There were dozens of restaurants and shops and it was just a really cool place, but it was too damn hot to enjoy anything. I definately want to go back again and look around more. By the time we finished dinner and did a bit of shopping at some of the outlets, it was going on 9:00 p.m., so we headed back to Wilmington. Now if I was a partying girl, that would have been the place to party. But alas, Sam and I are just boring old hags. Which is a good thing since I'm married and a mom, I guess. he he he The next day was the last day we were in Wilmington and the conference was over at 1:00 p.m. So after we wrapped everything up we headed back home. And we absolutely, positively can't pass through Durham without stopping at PF Chang's. We made it back home around 7:00 and I headed home, exhausted. It was great to see the kids again, but I had to go back to work the next day. Since I was so pooped from the trip, I ended up going in on Thursday and Friday a bit late. I guess I'm just getting old and can't handle as much anymore. he he he So that was basically my week. It's Saturday right now and both the kids are taking a nap. I actually hear Chase. He just woke up and is upstairs in his bed banging on a toy. It is 4:00 p.m. and I am still in my gown. Now that's pretty sorry isn't it? Sometimes on weekends we stay in our night clothes the whole weekend and don't even leave the house. It doesn't happen often, but this might be one of those weekends. I actually tried to get Skyler dressed, but she wouldn't have none of it. She wanted to stay in her jammies. Jonathan had to go in to work today. He is trying to beat an all times sales record at work this month and tomorrow is the last day of the month. I hope he makes it. He won't get a bonus or anything, but he will get a bit of recognition. I'm actually cooking today. My parents canned some beans this summer and they brought a couple of jars to us. So I put some green beans with some potatoes and a bit of fat back on the stove and cooked them really slow all day. When Jonathan gets home he will grill us some lemon pepper chicken and we'll also have corn on the cob. That's a grand meal for us because most of the time we eat sandwiches or eat out. We usually don't end up getting home until around 7:30 during the week and it's just too damn late to cook during the week. Weekends usually are a bit slower paced and I cook some. Since the weather has been bad this weekend we probably won't get to go out on the boat or go to the water park. That really sucks because summer is almost over. I can't believe Skyler will be going back to school in about three weeks. Speaking of school, hopefully we will hear real soon if she got into the county's K-4 or not. If she didn't it's another year at the Christian school. I'm hoping she did get in so I won't have to pay that private school tuition. Well I guess I better run for now and go tame Little Man. He is tearing down Skyler's blocks and she is getting pissed off. She just said to him, "Stop! I don't like you, I want a new baby! Y our not my friend anymore!" He he he Oh the years of sibiling fighting I have to look forward to..... Back from the Trip... Monica;Sick Again..... - Friday, July 22, 2005 Here is a shout out to new reader Kate! Thanks for stopping by. Kate is into scrapbooking. I would love to be talented and have enough time and patience to get into scrapbooking. What a cool way to make memories of your children. Anyway, thanks for stopping by and I hope you come back soon! It never fails, someone in this house is ALWAYS sick. We were in the process of getting Skyler and Chase better when BAM, I get sick. I started feeling really crappy the other day and by mid-afternoon, I was dead to the world. I also hurt my back and ended up having to call off work on Monday. I still feel like crap, but the major yuckiness only lasted for about 48 hours or so. Now Jonathan is sick with it. And you know men, they drag it out forever.... I also heard Skyler coughing again last night, so I'm hoping and praying that she doesn't come down with it again. That would be a major bummer. It seems I get sick almost every time or every other time the kids get sick. But Jonathan is lucky, he only gets sick about every 7th time the kids get sick. Damn him! Nah, I'm glad he has a better immune system than the rest of us. But it looks like the kids have inherited my health genes instead of his. That sucks. Jonathan took Skyler to her swimming lesson by himself on Monday. She finally learned to jump into the pool on her own! Woohoo! Now she will run and jump in. I'm impressed! I didn't learn how to do that until I was 9 years old, so she is a good 6 years ahead of me. Now we need to work on her actually "swimming" without the life preserver thing around her waist. All in good time, I'm sure. I'm really proud of her though. Just a few short weeks ago girlfriend wouldn't even let go of you in the water. I mean she would have a "death grip" around your neck. Now she is running and jumping in on her own. So she has come a long way baby! All in all it's been a pretty good week. Well except for the getting sick part. Monday I was sick and Jonathan had to take the kids to daycare, pick them up and then take Skyler to swimming lessons at the Y. I had the entire house to myself all day long. Even though I was sick, it was nice to have a peaceful, untinterrupted day all to myself. Tuesday I went back to work, picked the kids up after work, and then took Skyler to gymnastics. Wednesday it was another swimming lesson at the Y for Skyler. Jonathan went with us for this one. Well actually all 4 of us went. Little Man had to get in on the action to, you know. Can't leave him out. Although I know he was just dying to get out of his stroller and take a dive into the pool. I even took the video camera and the digital camera to her swimming lesson on Wednesday. I'll get the pics downloaded and put a few up in the next post or two. After that we went to dinner at Lonestar and then home for baths and bedtime. Thursday we actually stayed home. Jonathan was sicker than a dog and fell asleep on the couch as soon as he got home. He is feeling a little better today, but he isn't back 100% yet. So it was a boring night at the house last night. And tonight we just stayed at home again. I even cooked! Can you believe that one! Of course cooking for me means something that can be thrown together in 15 minutes or less. It was this canned chicken and vegetables and I put clumps of Bisquick on top to make kind of a chicken pot pie. It was actually pretty good. Jonathan ate the entire dish! Skyler of course wouldn't eat it. She kept saying, "Mommy that is nasty!" Geeze, look what I have to look forward to. Someone who is as picky as me when it comes to food. Little Man, of course, will eat anything you put in front of him. Obviously he liked it to because he had two helpings, just like his daddy! Sunday I leave on a business trip. I must be a really bad mommy, because I am actually looking forward to being away from the kids for a few days. It kind of makes me feel guilty. But I've been reading Jane's journal and realized that lots of moms feel guilty about stuff. It's nice to hear it from someone else's mouth. I mean I like getting a break from my kids. I enjoy going on my business trips, staying in nice hotels, eating nice meals with my co-workers and not dealing with the day-to-day "mommy routine." Does that make me a bad mom? I certainly hope not. Sometimes when I read other mothers' journals and they talk about how they spend 24/7 with their kids and how they couldn't STAND to spend even one moment away from their child.... Well I just don't feel like that. But does it make me a bad mom? I certainly hope not. Sometimes I wonder if it gets back to Jonathan and I waiting so damn long to have kids. We should have had the kids much earlier, that's for sure. Don't get me wrong, I love my kids more than anything in the world. But I actually enjoy going to work every day. I enjoy the breaks I get from home life when I travel for work. And I also enjoy Jonathan and I taking vacations without the kids. So sue me! Getting back to my business trip... I leave on Sunday and won't be back until Thursday, so there won't be any posts while I'm gone. I usually take one of the Wi-Fi laptops from work, but with so many of us going to the conference, I'm sure I won't be able to get my hands on one. This conference is going to be great because it's pretty small, only 200 or so attendees. And the best news is, it's not my department that is in charge! So woohoo! I'm just a plain ole worker at this conference. Yeah! The lady who has done this particular conference has done it 100% on her own. It was her first conference and I think she has done an outstanding job. Way to go P!! I'm sure everything is going to run smoothly. Well I guess I have rambled on long enough for today. I have absolutely nothing else to talk about. I probably won't post again until next weekend since I will be gone most of the week. Hope everyone has a great week! "Come on Mom, let me rest!" You Know Your A Redneck When.... - Saturday, July 16, 2005 You know your a redneck when you go to a child's birthday party and you think it's fun to hook up the riding lawnmower and a couple of little wagons to make a "Choo Choo Train." We went to one of Jonathan's co-worker's little boy's birthday party today. They had their backyard set up really cute with lots of stuff for the kids to play with, including this little "train." Skyler had a great time. Jonathan's friend is married to a girl from Mexico. According to his friend, they are notoriously late. He told them the party started at 10:00 a.m. so they would be on time. The party actually started at 2:00 p.m. So we showed up fashionably late around 2:30 and there was only one other family there. By 4:00 p.m. I was feeling pretty sorry for the little boy that no one other than his grandmother and grandpa and a friend or two was going to show up. Then finally around 5:30 all of the family and friends showed up. Three and a half hours late no less! She had a great time though. He had set up a little kitty pool and put the slide from the swingset with a water hose on it. The kids did lots of sliding. He had also set up a soccer field for the little kids to play on. When everyone finally showed up around 5:30, it was a mad house. We were all exhausted by then and finally headed out about 6:30 or so. I am too pooped to party. I'm glad we got Skyler down for an early nap before we left. Otherwise there would have been hell to pay. Tomorrow we are planning on going to the lake with the boat. I'm looking forward to it. We had a great time last weekend when we took it out. Skyler is getting braver in the water, but we still can't get her to stick her face in the water. I guess it will all come in time. At least she isn't screaming and hanging around your neck without letting go anymore. Girlfriend would practically strangle you and not let loose, just two weeks ago. So she's come a long way already. Little man ate his first cupcake today. Unfortunately, I had left the camera outside in the stroller and didn't get a pic of it. He took one little lick, his eyes got really big and then he went in head first. He was loving him some cupcake that's for sure. I think Skyler had enough sweets to kill a cow. She'll probably be bouncing off the walls tonight. Next weekend I leave for a work trip to Wilmington. I'm really looking forward to it. As I've mentioned before, it's not a really big meeting, only about 180 people from 5 different states. It's nice to get away sometimes, even if it's for work. At least my parents are coming over to help Jonathan with the kids. We are thinking about canceling our cruise in November. With two kids now and two daycares and all the medical bills.... Money has just become pretty tight. I mean we make really good money, but it just seems the more you make, the more you spend. $800 a month going out in daycare doesn't help either. I'm hoping and praying that Skyler gets into headstart this year. That way I won't have to pay for the private school. The way headstart works around her is they take the kids that need the most help first. I.e., the ones who can't say their ABC's, know their colors, can't count, etc. Then if they have any spaces left, they draw a lottery. So I'm not sure what her chances of getting in are. I don't think she would get in during the first round. Girlfriend has been saying her ABC's since she was 15 months old. She can count to 50 and can recognize letters. So I don't think she would fall into the category or needing extra help. Maybe we'll get lucky and she'll get in with the lottery. Let's keep our fingers crossed. That would be approximately $350 a month of daycare off of us. Of course we will still have to pay for after school care, but that's better than private school tuition AND after school care. Has anyone been watching the new show Rock Star - Inxs. I have to say it's a pretty good show. Much better than American Idol because the singers a much better. I just think it's pretty weird that Inxs is doing a show to find a new lead singer. Apparently the previous lead singer, Michael Hutchence supposedly committed suicide in 1997. Geeze, it doesn't seem that long ago, but it's been almost 10 years. I'm definitely getting old. Anyway, so now the aging rock group is looking for a new lead singer. I've been watching it and it's decent. Skyler and I went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory last night. I have just one word for the movie.... weird. I mean this movie was freaky. Of course, I didn't enjoy the first one, so I knew I probably wouldn't like this one. That is just one freaky book, let me tell you. Johnny Depp was good as always, the whole movie was just, well weird. Skyler enjoyed it though, so that's all that matters. She really likes going to the movies now and it's a time she and I can do something together without Little Man and daddy around. Our "girl's night out" as we like to call it. Well I hate to cut it short today, but Chase is sitting at my feet boo-hooing because he is ready to go night night. Hope everyone is having a great weekend. I'm outta here! You Know Your A Redneck When.... Monica;I'm Loving the New iPod! - Wednesday, July 13, 2005 I have to tell you, I am loving my new iPod! I downloaded my first Podcast the other day and I must say, I am HOOKED! Yessiree! I'm loving me some Podcasts. I've tried to get Jonathan to listen to a couple, but he just blows me off. Not that I have time to sit and listen to too many Podcasts or anything, but when Skyler and I lay down to watch our 30 minutes of Max & Ruby or Sponge Bob every night, it's a good time to put the ole iPod headphones on and listen to some Podcasts. I mean please people, how many reruns of Max & Ruby can one mom take! I don't have much time to write tonight because I want to head upstairs and watch some shows I have on the DVR. Last night's episode of Big Brother and The Closer. We love watching BB. We've watched it every year it comes on. The Closer is a great show to. It stars Kyra Sedgwick and it's a great show. There aren't many programs that Jonathan and I will watch together, but those are two that we both really like. A big shout out to Mary. I visited your blog and was trying to leave you a comment, but my frigging anti-virus thing has blocked pop-ups from your site for some reason. The thing kills Jonathan. He hates it. He can never open any of his emails from work and what not. I've got to remember to work on that one day. UPDATE: Logged in from work and was able to leave Mary a note. CONTINUED NEXT DAY... We ended up staying up until midnight last night watching The Closer and BB6. We hardly ever stay up that late because Skyler is still in the habit of waking up in the middle of the night and keeping Jonathan up for awhile. Well she woke up at 5:00 a.m. this morning and never went back to sleep. Jonathan told her she couldn't get up because it was still night time. But as soon as the sun came out she was bouncing out of bed. Since she was up so early, I just gave her a bath. Both she and Jonathan are going to be hard to deal with today I'm sure. Jonathan cannot function on 5 hours of sleep. He requires at least 8 or he is a total grouch. Skyler will be wiped out by noon today. Last night we took Skyler to her swimming lesson at the Y. She is doing really well. We just need to have her practice putting her face in the water. She can swim fine with the little floatie thing on her, but she doesn't want to put her face in the water. I guess that's to be expected from most 3 year olds. I definately think she will be swimming by next summer at the latest. I didn't actually learn how to swim until I was 9 and I really want Skyler to learn much earlier. Mainly because we go to the water park weekly and now we have the boat so we go out on it on weekends to. Anyway, almost the moment her swimming lessons were ending, there was a big crack of lightening and everyone had to get out of the pool. It's an indoor pool, but they still make you get out during thunderstorms. When we got her dressed and started to leave it was a downpour! I told Jonathan to wait a few minutes and it would stop raining so hard, but no, the average man doesn't mind getting a little wet during a rain storm. So he headed off to get the car. He got soaked!! I don't mean just a little wet, but it basically looked like he had just jumped in the pool, pulled himself out and started walking down the street. Even though he pulled up to pick us up, we all got soaked to. So this morning I open the door to the van and it reaks! I don't know if Jonathan got my seat so wet that it began to stink or what. But it smells like rotten eggs in my car. Nasty! I tried leaving some of the windows open this afternoon to air it out. I even drove into work this morning with the windows down. But the stench is still permeating from the van. Any suggestions? If I can ever find my Febreeze, maybe that would help. Things at work are starting to pick up pace. Convention is only like 2 months away and we are really kicking it into high gear. I'm looking forward to going to convention this year. It's lots of hard work, but a lot of fun to. Next weekend we are having a fairly large meeting in Wilmington. I'll be gone for about 5 days, so Jonathan will be left back here with the kids. My mom and step dad are supposed to come over from TN to help out. Not that Jonathan can't handle the kids by himself or anything, but extra help when one of us is gone is always nice. Not to mention that Jonathan normally works until 7:00 or 7:30 every night. Well I've ran out of things to say for now. So I'm outta here!I'm Loving the New iPod! Monica; Just Stuff... - Monday, July 11, 2005 Let's see, we had a really busy weekend. On Friday I left work around 12:00 and ran my errands. I decided Skyler and I needed a "girl's night out" together, so I thought we would go to the movies. We went to see Madagascar. It was quite the cute movie and Skyler really enjoyed it. I didn't realize it but at the theater we went to, if you see a movie between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. the cost is only $4.25. Skyler is only 3 and gets in free, so we saw a movie for $4.25. Not bad in this day and age. The only setback was when we got our drinks and popcorn, it was $12.00! Geeze! Next time I'll know that we can share instead of ordering her the kid's version and myself a drink and small popcorn. Live and learn I guess! It's pretty cool because they have little booster seats for the kids. We picked one up and went into the theater. She really enjoyed herself. She sat through the entire movie and all in all was pretty quiet. She laughed out loud a few times and asked some questions, but other than that, she was really good. I think we will try and go see more movies together in the future. The only other movie I have taken her to was Shrek 2.
"Guess Jonathan has really been working a lot here lately! Looks like your hard needs some tending to." Now how how embarrassing is that? Jonathan doesn't get embarrassed at all. Yard work is not an enjoyment for him. I guess kind of how cooking isn't an enjoyment for me. So anyway, he got up around 9:15 and mowed the yard and then later that afternoon we decided to take the boat out. We have never taken Little Man out on the boat before, so this was going to be a first. It was a chore just getting the boat and the kids ready to go. By the time we had eaten lunch, given Chase his nap and got everything ready, it was after 3:00! So we headed to a local marina someone had told us about to put the boat in. Imagine my surprise when it cost us $10.00 to put the boat in! Geeza Wheeza WTF?!?! $10.00 for the pleasure of putting our boat in ourselves! Back home in Tennessee it costs, um NOTHING! Geeze! I guess we won't be taking our butts to that marina again. The sad thing is there were probably 100 boats that were putting in that day. These people are making a killing! So we got the boat in and was on our merry way. Skyler isn't all into riding on the boat, she really likes to just get out and swim in the water. It was quite funny to see Little Man in his life jacket. He looked like a miniature mummy. He didn't cry or anything. He was a real trooper! But you could tell he was miserable in his life jacket. One of us had to stay in the boat with him while the other one swam with Skyler. Since Chase has had so many ear infections, I didn't want to put him in the water. I sat on the back of the boat with him and put his legs in, but I didn't fully put him down in the water. It was a great afternoon and we were all pooped by the time we got home. Sunday was my day to sleep in, so I slept in until about 9:30. Jonathan got up with Chase and Skyler around 7:30 and had them fed before I was up. Skyler really wanted to go to the water park, so she and I headed to the water park around 2:30 and stayed until well after 6:00. As we were coming home Skyler said the nicest thing to me. She said, "Mommy, today has been a happy day. I had so much fun with you. I love you so much." Now let's all say, "Aaaaahhhhhh." How sweet was that? I'll think back on days like this when she is about 15 and can't stand the sight of me. We got home and grilled some hamburgers out on the grill and ended the evening together. All in all, it was a pretty great weekend. Now I guess you know why I never get anything done around the house. I guess it's just hard when you work full time. I feel so guilty and I want to spend all of my time with the kids, enjoying my time with them. Who wants to clean house and wash clothes and run errands. That's one reason why I like getting off early on Fridays. I can get most of my weekly running done before I pick the kids up. The grocery shopping, throw a few loads of laundry in, pay some bills, etc. The bad news was Chase hasn't been napping well and has been really grumpy. Usually when that happens, it means one thing... An ear infection. So the babysitter was nice enough to take him to the doctor today so neither one of us had to miss work. And the news was, as usual, Little Man has 2 ear infections! Geeze. No wonder the little guy is so grumpy. I'm sure an evening out on the windy boat didn't make him feel any better. But he never once complained. He even slept some in his uncomfortable little life jacket. I wish I had taken the camera. He looked quite cute. Then today, Monday, Skyler had her first swimming lesson at the YMCA. She did great! She was the only 3 year old in with four 5 year olds and she did better than any of them! She was so proud of herself. She has learned a lot from going to the lake and water park, but she still doesn't know how to "officially" swim. So we thought swimming lessons would do a lot for her. Tomorrow girlfriend has gymnastics and then on Wednesday she has another swimming lesson. Can you say 3 year old overload! The bad thing is she loves staying busy. If we stay home one day on the weekend she is like, "Mommy where are we going today." She can't stand to stay home any more than I can. Jonathan has always called her a "Go Go Go Girl." The name is quite appropriate. Well I think I will end for now and take myself upstairs to watch a rerun of Grey's Anatomy. What a cool show! You must catch it sometime if you get the chance. Until next time..... Just Stuff... Monica;How American Are You? - Saturday, July 09, 2005 Borrowed from CootieHog
How American Are You? Monica; 4th of July - Wednesday, July 06, 2005 Oh what bliss the long holiday weekend was. It was great being home over the holiday. Nothing really exciting happened or anything, but just being home with my parents is always nice. Mom usually helps out tremendously with the kids. I.e., she gets up with Chase and let's Jonathan, Skyler and I sleep in. Yippee!! So it's a nice little break when we go home. The trip home took longer than usual. I guess because we were towing the boat behind the van. We stopped in to eat dinner at Wendy's on the way home somewhere outside of Wytheville and good God the line! I think everybody and their brother was eating at Wendy's that night. It took Jonathan approximately 20 minutes just to get the food. He came back grumbling about how mis-managed the place was. My reply was, "If you were making $7.00 an hour to manage this place, how well do you think you would manage it?" "You get what you pay for." He grumbled a bit more and sat down to his burger. We didn't get home until 10:30 p.m. We usually leave early, but one thing after another kept happening at Jonathan's work, so he didn't get to leave until about 4:30. By the time he came home and packed (yes men ALWAYS wait until the last possible moment to pack) and we got the kids in the car, it was well after 6:00. Little Man was so pooped he couldn't even keep his eyes open by the time we got home. He went off to bed like a champ though. Skyler slept with me, so she was in bliss the entire weekend. I NEVER let her sleep with me at home, but when we go to my parent's, she will keep my step dad up all night, so I usually just let her sleep with me and we don't have any problems. My parents have 4 bedrooms, so Jonathan sleeps in another room. He likes having a bed all to himself every once in awhile. Me, I have to wake up with the toddler's head on my pillow or her piggies in my back. Fun! Speaking of Little Man, he is going to be so much more destructive than Skyler. He has already broken/destroyed more objects in his short life than Skyler has in her entire 4 years! I guess that's just the nature of boys, but oh what do we have to look forward to. I guess I forgot to mention he busted out the glass on one of my bookshelves a few weeks ago. And this weekend while we were home, we had the baby bed a wee bit too close to the dresser. My mom had several photos, a beautiful antique wash stand and a lamp on the dresser. Well they had never attached the mirror to the dresser. While we were thinking that he was fast asleep, he reached out and heaved the heavy ass mirror off the dresser. As the mirror fell down, it took everything on the dresser down with it. Shattering the antique wash stand, pictures, etc. What a mess. Luckily Skyler and I were at Wal-Mart when it happened and Jonathan was left to deal with the mess. hehe Poor daddy. Let's see, what all did we do this weekend. On Saturday we had reservations at this little rinky dink restaurant that is in the middle of nowhere. It's called The Mill Wheel. It's a little hole in the wall across from the Afton, Tennessee Post Office. They are open about 3 days a week and serve certified Angus steak. They have about 10 tables and it's run by a husband and wife. The husband, George sometimes serenades his customers with his banjo playing. Which Skyler politely asked him to play her all time favorite, Rocky Top Tennessee. We took Jonathan's grandmother and my parents and had a wonderful dinner. If you are ever in Greenville, Tennessee, you must make a trip up to Afton to eat at The Mill Wheel. It's divine! Sunday we headed up to my sister's house for a small barbecue. I hadn't seen my sister in a few months. She has lost like 40 pounds. Way to go girl! I wish I could do the same. I didn't get a chance to ask her how she was doing it. But she did mention that she and her hubby have been walking/running 2 to 3 miles a day. Damn, I just wish I had time to do that. I barely have time to wash my damn hair and take a shower every night. She doesn't work and her hubby is a computer programmer who works from home, so I'm sure they have a bit more time than Jonathan and I have. Anyway, the barbecue was the only time the whole weekend we saw my dad and step mom. We never even made it down to visit them or Jonathan's grandmother the whole weekend. Earlier in the day we had "attempted" to go out on the boat. Jonathan and my step dad worked on it all morning, starting it up, making sure everything was running well, etc. So we head out to Warrior's Path Park to put the boat in the water for the FIRST time since we bought it last year. I was 9 months pregnant when we bought the boat and Jonathan wasn't about to go out on the boat when we first got it. And we have been so busy this summer we haven't even had a chance to take it out anywhere. So we back the boat down into the water and Jonathan starts it, no problem. Then I jump in the van and take it and the trailer and park it. Jonathan is running the engine and putting around the lake with Skyler. He pulls up to the dock to pick me up and the boat dies... And then we cant get the frigging thing started again. Luckily we are home in good ole Tennessee where folks are ever so helpful. Two or three guys came out and attempted to get the boat started. When we finally figured out it wasn't going to start, they helped Jonathan pull it back up on the trailer. Geeze. Jonathan was really upset because they had worked so hard on getting it ready. So we took the boat home and Jonathan fooled with it that afternoon and then most of the next morning. He finally decided he wasn't going to be able to figure it out so he called some boat places. This was the 4th, so most weren't open and the few that were said that they had a 4 week wait to look at a boat! Geeze, I think we need to start a boat repair business! Finally he got in touch with this one place in Bristol. The guy was really nice and asked Jonathan some questions. He finally figured out we were missing the idle button! I guess when Jonathan and Ron were cleaning the boat earlier in the week they must have knocked it off or something. Jonathan found the button and popped it back on and we were in business! So thanks to the man in Bristol who walked Jonathan through the problem! On the afternoon of the 4th we took the boat out for the first time! We put her down in the water and she started right up, no problems! I had never actually driven a boat before (other than when I was a child and just playing around), so Jonathan taught me how to drive the boat and he attempted to knee board. We used to own a jet ski when we lived in Georgia and we would take it and about 5 of Jonathan's soldier friends down to the river and jet ski and knee board behind it. What Jonathan failed to realized is he is 7 years older and about 50 pounds heavier! He did get up a few times, but he wasn't as suave as he used to be on the knee board. And that night he was so sore he could barely move! Skyler loved the boat! Jonathan let her drive a bit and she thought she was hot stuff. We had an absolutely wonderful afternoon and I'm really looking forward to taking it out again. I'm just a little scared about taking Chase out on the boat. We have an infant life jacket for him, but it's just scary taking an 11 month old out on the boat. I know if Skyler fell in she could hold her head out of water with her life jacket on, but I don't know about Chase. Next year it will be much better because he will be older and walking. Actually, that might be a bad thing now that I think about it! All in all we had a great weekend. It was nice being home and seeing family. And this work week has just flown by since I only had to work 3 days this week. I wish I only worked 3 days every week. How cool would that be? We are hoping to take the boat out again this weekend to a lake near us, but with Hurricane Dennis on it's way here, I'm not sure if we will have good weather. We had a horrible storm last night. No damage to our house, but a lot of downed trees and flooding in the area. I feel sorry for people living in Florida who have to evacuate their homes. And all the damage that Ivan did to them last year. I know they aren't looking forward to another stormy season. Well I guess that just about sums up my week. I've been catching up on some of the journals I read. I wish I was as talented a writer as some of the people I read. I can't "write". I just jabber about my life. And it's not a very exciting one at that! But it is MY life! Hope everyone has a great weekend! I shoulda been a cowgirl! A Long Weekend... - Friday, July 01, 2005 Can you believe this year is more than half over? This year is absolutely flying by. I just had my 35th birthday. Sometimes I sit back and I can't believe that I am 35 years old. THIRTY-FIVE YEARS OLD!!! Geeze! Where has the time gone? It seems like only yesterday I was back in high school. I remember when the song 1999 by Prince came out (I think around 1984 or so). I said to myself, "I will be 29 years old in 1999. That's a life time from now. Oh my gosh, I will be so OLD then!" How stupid do I feel now? Now I think 50 isn't even that old. I guess that's just part of growing up and getting older, huh? I know when Skyler and Chase are teenagers they are going to think that 30 is so old! I know I used to think that. So anyway, off the age thing. Not much going on at the house this week. Both kids are still sick, which is a bummer. It's so sad to see Little Man with a croupy cough. I think Skyler is FINALLY getting over it. I took them both to the doctor on Wednesday. Skyler has bronchitis and Chase has the beginning of bronchitis and an ear infection. So both are now on antibiotics. Fun. At least I can get Skyler to take the antibiotic. It takes an Act of Congress to get girlfriend to take medicine! She can be so pig headed sometimes. Hmmmm, wonder who she takes that after? We have a long holiday weekend, so we are heading home to Tennessee. We are also taking the boat home with us. Can you believe we had had the thing since last July and haven't taken it out once! Not even ONE time!?!? I tried to tell Jonathan when he bought the damn thing that we wouldn't have time to go out on a boat when we both work full time and our kids are so small. I mean a boat will be great when they are older. But who wants to take a 3 year old and a baby out on a boat? Geeze. Men. You know how they get, when they get something in their mind that they absolutely MUST have, there is no stopping them. At least I finally talked him out of a Harley. I am looking forward to going out on the boat. We are going to leave Chase with mom, but take Skyler with us. Skyler is beside herself with excitement. She has been on a boat before. My parents and my aunt and uncle have pontoon boats. But she has never been on "her boat" as she calls it. She also has a brand new Little Mermaid lifejacket that she is looking forward to wearing. When Jonathan took the cover off of the boat a few days ago, it was all moldy and nasty. Seems he put the cover on it last summer after it we had it cleaned and it was still wet. Hence two tons of mold now cover the interior of the boat. We spent $100 to have the boat detailed by one of his co-workers last year when we bought it and now it looks worse than before! Yuck! Not to mention the fact that while this guy was cleaning said boat, Jonathan neglected to put his truck emergency brake on, so the guy who was cleaning the boat AND the boat rolled down the hill. As said boat rolled down the hill, with said person inside the boat, it ran over one of the seats. So we had to spend $300 to replace the seat. The bad part is, when Jonathan parked the boat and truck, I said to him, "Jonathan did you put the emergency brake on? You probably should put some cinder blocks behind those wheels." Jonathan told me to keep my mouth shut, so when the boat rolled down the hill. Well I couldn't do anything but gloat. So shoot me! Anyway, last night, the same guy who cleaned it last year, came back to clean it again. Geeze. My husband's motto is, "Why do something myself when I can pay someone else to do it for me." I guess I don't have much room to talk, because I do have a girl that comes in and cleans house for me every other week. For the last two weeks Jonathan has been working some really long hours. He has been really stressed out. He had this big grand opening at the shop, end of year counts, "big dogs" coming down from corporate, etc. Sometimes I don't realize how much Jonathan actually helps me out with the kids until he isn't there. I usually pick them both up every day and have them fed by the time he gets home from work, but just getting them bathed and in the bed... When he isn't there, it's a big change. I really wonder how single parents do it sometimes. For all you single parents out there, I commend you. It's a damn hard job I'm sure. It's a hard job when there are two parents in the house, so I can only imagine how hard it is when there is only one. He really needs the days off to take a breather from the stresses at work. He had 8 tires stolen last week. That really sucks. What sucks even worse is that it had to be an employee. How crappy would it be knowing that one of your own employees is a thief! Figuring out who did it is going to be a pain in the ass I'm sure. The sad thing is, the manager is the one who takes the blame. I mean he could be fired over something like this. Never mind that the tires are always locked. When you have other employees who have access, it's just really hard to prove who did it. I'm lucky I work in an office and I'm not a Manager, so I'm not responsible for stuff like that. I don't think I would make a great manager. I like being the "low man on the totem pole" sometimes. At least I don't have to worry about losing my job because of other people's screw ups. If any of you read Allison at Allison's Wonderland, she had her baby this week. So congratulations to Aaron and Allison! She is still in the hospital and wanted to update her readers herself, so we don't know what he weighed or what they finally named him. hopefully she will update over the weekend. Man it really sucks when you don't have anything else to talk about. I guess it just proves what a boring life I am leading at the moment. No excitement going on here. Hopefully I will have more excitement to tell you about when we return from TN. I'm just looking forward to being home again and seeing my parents. I haven't been home since Easter. I guess I will update when I get back. Take care and hope everyone has a Happy AND Safe 4th of July!!! How hard do you think it will be to break this habit? "Strike a Pose" |
