Pieces of Us...
Here We Go Again..... - Saturday, June 10, 2006

Here we go again... Every time I think I am back in the groove of keeping up with this blog, time just seems to get away from me. Let's see, what all has been going on since I last wrote.

Last weekend my parents came over to bring Chase home and to spend a weekend with us. They hadn't been for a visit since we went on our cruise back in November of last year. They were getting slack! I think they don't like coming over so much anymore because when they come they boot Chase out of his room. We have to put up the port-a-crib and put him in our room. But I don't think Chase minds and we definitely don't mind.

So they came over on Friday and we all went out to dinner. On Saturday we had planned on taking them to the Lazy 5 Ranch so they could see it. So we got in our car and headed towards Mooresville. I thought, "Well I'll call and make an appointment to ride a wagon." So I called the ranch and the girl said the horses weren't taking out anymore wagons that afternoon because they were too tired. It was only noon! I guess since it was so hot, they must have wore themselves out or something. But who wants go to if you can't actually ride in one of the wagons. Going through the ranch in your car just isn't as much fun. In my opinion anyway. Not to mention we have a mini van and the windows don't roll down for the kids or anything, so it would really blow for them.

So we were almost there by the time I called. We decided we wouldn't go to the ranch but go to the North Carolina Transportation Museum instead to ride the train. Skyler has always loved trains and Chase is pretty keen on them to. So we headed to Spencer to ride the train. We walked around the exhibits for a bit and then went on our train ride. As usual, Skyler got a bit mouthy while we were there and we ended up not staying as long as I would have liked. Sometimes I wonder about this child. She has the mouth of a 15 year old on her and she is only 4. I can only imagine what she is going to be like when actually is 15!

After we left the Transportation Museum it was still pretty early so I asked Jonathan if we could drive on down to Concord Mills to do a bit of shopping and let Skyler and Chase play at Jillians. Jillians is a place that has food and rides, kind of like a larger Chuck-E-Cheese or something. You can buy a wristband and the kids can ride all of the rides all day. They have an indoor miniature roller coaster, swings, etc. It's kind of cool. It had been a really long time since we had been to Concord Mills so we were really surprised when we got there and saw they had opened up a Dave & Busters. Unfortunately by the end of the day the kids were pretty exhausted so we didn't even get a chance to go in D&B's and see it.

By that time we were all starving, so we decided to eat at Razoo's Cajun Cafe. Yum! I love Razzoos. Their stuffed shrimp is to die for. Chase loved everything and stuffed himself silly. Their menu is quite creative with things like fried pickles and "rat toes." I think the menu kind of freaked out my mom when she first looked at it. After dinner everyone was exhausted and we headed back home.

Sunday Jonathan had to go in to work for awhile and then that afternoon my parents kept Chase while Jonathan, Skyler and I went to the water park. It was the first time we had been this year. It was pretty warm outside, the water was still pretty cold. Of course that didn't deter Skyler in the least little bit.

Then on Monday Skyler had her orientation at the new performing arts school. My parents were still kind of unsure about this whole "open school" thing. So I asked them to come over and go with me to the parent/child orientation to find out more about how they do things at the school and also give them a bit of a tour. I won't go into great detail about everything, but as they were explaining things to the parents I kept looking over at my mom and she just had this dumbfounded expression on her face. I was about to crack up! I still think she doesn't quite "get it."

Nonetheless, Skyler is so excited and she can't wait to start school. I don't think she quite understands that she won't be going there until August. She still has no concept of time whatsoever. When you say "tonight" or "tomorrow" she gets agitated and doesn't understand.

Thursday was Skyler's last day of pre-k. We have put her in a local church daycare for the summer. Evidently she really likes it because when I went to pick her up yesterday around 3:00 p.m. to go to the movies to see Cars, she pretty much threw a fit and didn't want to leave! She kept saying, "But mom, I want to stay!!!" It took me a good 15 minutes to get her out of there. By that time we were almost late for the movie. Luckily we made it just as the movie was coming on. I have to say I really enjoyed the movie. It was pretty funny. It had a lot of adult humor in it to. And I'm sure if your a Nascar fan, you would definitely recognize a lot of the voices of the cars. I watch a bit of Nascar once in a blue moon if Jonathan has it on. But I really don't know any of the drivers by name, car or number or anything. Except maybe Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Jeff Gordon. Oh God, does that make me a redneck?!?

Then last night one of Jonathan's old Army buddies he was stationed with in Korea came up to spend the night. His name is Steve and he used to live in Florida, but a few months ago they have moved to Asheville. So Asheville is not too far away so he decided to come for a visit. He and Jonathan cleaned up the boat and got it started and are on their way to Lake Norman as we speak. Meanwhile I'm stuck here at home with the kids today. Oh joy, happy, happy, joy, joy.... Nah, they aren't too bad. Chase is napping and Skyler is in her room playing with her Barbies. Hence why I have a few moments to write an entry.

I actually got up this morning and made breakfast for everyone. I made biscuits and gravy, sausage and bacon. We had some of Jonathan's grandmother's applebutter and homemade strawberry jam. Yum. I'm still not an expert on the making gravy, but I'm still practicing! After Jonathan and Steve left to go out on the boat I even put a roast into the oven. I just feel like a total domestic diva today. he he he

I also spent sometime on myspace this weekend. I've had a myspace profile for years now. But I never really used it. I think the only friend I had was "Tom." And for all of those who use myspace, you will know it is not cool to have Tom as your only friend! A couple of fellow bloggers I read had mentioned they now had spots on myspace, so I went to check them out. I got to messing around and looking up people from my old high school in Tennessee. In less than a couple of hours, I had gotten in touch with 3 long lost classmates. Now how cool was that!

Unfortunately I did receive a bit of bad news from one of them though. Her brother, whom I had actually been friends with and gone out with a couple of times, had died of a brain aneurysm in 2002. I didn't even know he had passed. She and her brothers lived in the same subidvision as I did growing up. But how cool was it catching up with a couple of old classmates. Now I'm on a quest to add more friends. Here is a link to my myspace profile:

Don't laugh or anything because I have absolutely hardly any friends and I really haven't figured out how to "pimp" my page yet. But I'm learning!!! If any of you guys have myspace profiles, please, please, please friend me so I don't feel like a dork! he he he

Well I better end for now before I put you to sleep from boredom. I'm hoping I'll have a few moments to catch up on your blogs today. Keep in touch girls! Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Never Enough Time.... - Saturday, June 03, 2006
Things have just been absolutely CRAZY this week. You take a nice 4 day weekend and what do you get when you return to work.... Slammed! Ugh. I love taking vacations, but it seems when you get back things have just piled up. And I was only gone two days. Geeze.

The real reason I was so busy this week is I was moving my office. They have finally hired a new person to work in events and education, so I'm back to legal full time. I don't mind. I really enjoyed working in events much better than legal, but it had come a time where I couldn't handle both jobs. It was too much. I was constantly stressed and worried about how much I had to do. So I am at least grateful they took some of my work off of me. But I will definitely miss working in events. I will still do all the legal events. Just not all the big meetings we have throughout the year. Although they will still depend on me to be the "AV person." Still not sure how I acquired that job. I mean come on people, it's not that hard to hook up an LCD projector. It only has two cords.

Anyway, so I was basically moving all week. I am known at the office as the "pig pen." I keep my office looking like a total wreck. Not sure why I do it, but I always have papers and boxes and files strewn about. I'm sure they will be glad I am gone with my messiness. I always get gigged on my messiness on my evaluation. But each year I just let them know it's never going to change. That just happens to be how I work. They laugh it off. After 7 years, I think they have pretty much figured out I'm never going to have a neat office.

So I had like 5 years of build up in this particular office. I started cleaning up and I think I trashed about 60% of my office. I was throwing away files and registrations. You name it, it went into the dipsty dumpster. After I was finished my old office looked clean. I even vacuumed and dusted. The new girl should be happy. She has a clean office to start in.

So I just rolled everything on carts over to my new office. I put a few things away. But for the most part, all my junk is still on the carts. I had a few things that I needed to attend to that were pretty important. And straightening out my new office was not at the top of my list. Then yesterday I had an all day computer class. My friend Sam and I took Outlook 2003, Level 2. You think you know absolutely everything there is to know about Outlook, but you don't. We learned quite a bit. I don't think I'll go back and take Level 3, I think I can figure the rest of it out on my own.

My parents came over this weekend to bring Chase back. They are really coming over to check out Skyler's new school. On Monday she has her kindergarten orientation at the new performing arts school. School doesn't actually start until August, but I think they want to bring the kindergarteners in so they can see what school is like while the other kids are there. My mom is kind of freaking out about the whole "open school" thing. Whenever I tried to explain it to her, it horrified her. But I think once she sees what it's like, she will understand it a bit more.

Right now I'm sitting here listening to Skyler cry. Skyler has no concept of privacy or minding what her parent say sometime. She thinks if your in the bathroom taking a shower or using the bathroom, she can just waltz on in and do whatever she likes. If you look the door, she totally freaks out. I've tried explaining to her that you need privacy when your taking a shower and using the restroom, but she freaks out. She will stand outside the door and beat and kick on the door. You can talk to her, put her in time out, spank her... But she doesn't listen. Sometimes I don't know what to do with her. Mom is in there taking a shower and Skyler is so mad because someone has locked the door.

I'm not sure what we are going to do this weekend. I was thinking about taking my parents down to the Lazy 5 Ranch. But it has been kind of wet and rainy today. It's not actually raining right now though so we might go on. I know I definitely don't want to be cooped up in the house with the kids all weekend. I have to get out of the house or I go bonkers.

Well I better end for now and get ready to go. Little Man is down for a nap at the moment and Skyler is lying naked in her bed crying because I got on to her for beating on the bathroom door. Just a normal day in our household.....
