One More Day! - Wednesday, August 09, 2006

I can't believe I only have one more day of work before vacation! Yippee!! I'm getting excited. Our first "official" family vacation. Should be an experience. Now if I just don't forget the camcorder and digital camera. Gotta get those beach shots of the kiddies.

Wow, I had 7 comments on my last post. That has to be one of my all time records. It makes me feel loved!

Not much has been going on this week. I will say one thing, I've been reading Nance's journal for several years and I've seen her mention a site called craigslist several times. Craigslist is like a Penny Saver or classifieds/eBay like website. The only thing is, its FREE! Yes Free! How cool is that. So I was browsing through some of the listings in my hometown when I came across a Lil Power Wheels Race Car for $15.00! This little race car retailed for over $60.00. It was a couple of years old and they don't make them anymore, but that was a great deal. The ad was a couple of weeks old, so I was sure that it had been sold by now. So I sent an email through craigslist and the next morning the owner emailed me and said she still had the car. So we set up a time and I met her husband that afternoon and bought it. We had originally planned to buy Chase a battery powered motorcycle for his birthday, but they are so expensive (over $100). Now we get him a little race car for 1-3 year olds that fits him perfectly. I'm so happy. I just love a bargain.

So I did a bit of birthday shopping the other day. Does anyone else have problems finding toys for toddler boys? I just can't seem to find anything interesting. Chase has bookoos of cars and trucks. So I was stumped on what to get him for his birthday. He is obsessed with Disney's Cars. He loves the movie and he thinks Lightning McQueen and Mater are the best things ever. But that stuff is sooo expensive. I did find him a pair of Cars light up tennis shoes that are just adorable. The bottoms look like little wheels and they light up. I wish I could find a picture of them to show you.

So I did come across one thing that I thought he would like. It originally retails for $34.99, but was on sale for $14.99. Its a Playskool Cool Crew Talking Tool Bench. Adorable.

Jonathan finally got the suitcase out of the storage building last night. He must really be looking forward to this vacation because he has already packed his clothes. Now this is coming from the man who usually waits until the night before we leave on a cruise to pack. So him packing several days early is unheard of. Heck, I haven't even started packing my own stuff. I'm still in the process of washing up the kids' clothes for the trip. How the heck do kids mess up so many clothes people?!?!

I totally had something I wanted to mention here and as I was typing that last paragraph I completely forgot what the he-- it was. Do you ever do stuff like that? From the moment I hit 30, my mind/memory has gone to sheer pot.

I wish I was talented and could actually write things and make them sound funny like Nance and Jane. Alas, I'm just a country bumpkin from Tennessee with no writing capabilities whatsoever. Oh well. I guess we are all talented at something or another. But writing is definitely not one of my talents.

Speaking of writing and fellow bloggers. Krista's daughter was again featured on Armed Forces Network (AFN). She has such a wonderful story. Go check it out for yourself. You can find it here. I don't know what my problem was, but the other day when I watched the video, I just cried like a baby. Chase was playing beside me in the floor and he looked at me like I was a total mental case.

I know I'm all over the place with this post today. I guess I just don't have very much in the way of excitement going on this week. My life is currently pretty boring. So enough rambling for now. I'm assuming this will be my last post until we get back from vacation. So you won't see me on here for a week or so. Stalker don't get any ideas about an empty house or anything, we have a house/dog sitter coming. So there! Hope you guys have a great week! See you in a week or so!

Counting Down the Days.... - Monday, August 07, 2006

I can't believe its just 4 more days until we leave for the beach. Woohoo! This will be our first "Family Vacation" ever. Should be interesting....

The good news is my parents are going with us, so we will at least have some help with Little Man. He is such a little destroyer right now. At what age do boys calm down? Please don't tell me never.

I tried to get caught up on a couple of your blogs over the weekend. Since we are trying to save money for our trip, we have kind of just been hanging out at the house. Saturday was a lazy stay at home day. Jonathan did go out with one of his friends on the boat. He had a couple of things he wanted to get fixed on it. So he was gone most of the morning and part of the afternoon.

Friday Jonathan picked up the kids from daycare and I went to dinner with my friend Sam. We went to my favorite Italian restaurant. As I was eating my dinner I was just savoring the taste. It was so yummy. We even had a couple of glasses of wine with our dinner. On the house, of course. I was home by about 7:30, about the usual time Jonathan comes rolling in from work. Jonathan had fed the kids, given Chase a bath and was putting him to bed when I arrived. He said he didn't have any problems with the kids other than the usual fighting and a bit of arguing with each other. So it gave him some time alone with the kids and gave me a break.

Yesterday we went to the water park. Skyler took swimming lessons at her daycare and she must have learned quite a bit. Maybe too much. She really thinks she can swim on her own now. And don't get me wrong, she is doing very well, but she can only swim about 8 to 10 feet or so. She has no fear and will jump into the deep end willy nilly without thinking about it. Can I just say one thing... Frightening. Neither one of the kids has any fear. Chase is doing the same thing. Fortunately we still keep Chase in his lifejacket. I think one day when he jumps in without it on and realizes he sinks, he will have a problem. We had to be really careful and keep an eye on Skyler. You would turn your back to mess with Chase and Skyler would just jump right on in. Sometimes I think its better if your child has at last a "wee bit" of fear.

Here is an update on Jonathan's weight loss... So far he has lost 25 pounds. Woohoo! Way to go hubby! Me, I've lost 4. Ugh... Of course, I don't think I am motivated like Jonathan. I don't know what my problem is. I guess its kind of like him, you have to be ready, willing and desiring it before you can make it work. I really want it, but I just don't have as much motivation as he has right now. Shoot me please. But I am very proud of Jonathan. He is doing so good. I think he has hit a point where he is going to have to start exercising regularly. He lost 20 pounds like in the first two weeks. But those 5 additional pounds have been really hard to get off. I also know he is getting sick and tired of eating chicken.

I'm really excited to see how things go at his next doctor's appointment this month. I think his doctor is going to be really surprised at the weight he has lost. Hopefully this will also help his liver enzymes to come down.

I'm really looking forward to going on vacation this weekend. But you know the one thing I hate the most is packing. Packing blows. And since we really haven't taken both kids on a vacation before, this is going to be interesting. We go home all the time to visit my parents in Tennessee. But they have a lot of the baby stuff so we don't have to carry everything. They have a baby bed, high chair, stroller, etc. already at their house. So we don't have to pack very much when we go. Basically throw some of his clothes and some diapers in a bag and we are ready to go. She has sassies (pacifiers), the highchair, forks, sippy cups, etc. This time I am going to have to try and remember to bring everything. I guess its times like this that I'm thankful we have a mini van. Because trust me, I'm not thankful all the time. I swore to myself when I was a teenager I would NEVER drive a mini van. But look at me now baby.

Last night I watched a movie from Netflix. It was an older movie called Head Over Heels with Freddie Prinz, Jr. and Monica Potter. It was cute, but not one of my favorites. The bathroom scene where the models were in the shower and Jim was taking a dump on the toilet was pretty hilarious. But it definitely wasn't one of my all time favorites. I still have Fever Pitch to watch.

I tried to get Jonathan to watch it with me last night, but he didn't want to watch a movie. He watched Big Brother instead. I guess I'm glad he did, because the DVR didn't record it for some reason. I had already went online and found out who won HOH and who was nominated. So it kind of spoiled it for me. I was going to watch it, but after the movie went off and I realized it hadn't recorded it. Oh well. It was time for bed anyway.

Well I guess I have rambled on long enough for one day. Hope everyone had a great weekend. Take care!

Getting Slack Again... - Wednesday, August 02, 2006

Not much going on this week. Because we are trying to save some money, we haven't done much other than hang out at the house.

Last weekend was a blow out. For about three days last week, I had been having this pain in my left ear. You know me, I ignore it until it gets so bad I can't stand it.

So Friday I picked up the kids from daycare and headed to the house. They were their usual screaming and yelling selves. Fighting, pushing, pulling each other's hair out. Fun. So by the time Jonathan came rolling into the house at around 6:30, my ear/head was killing me.

He walked in the door and I was like, "My ear is killing me, I'm going to the doctor. Now." I think he thought I was full of crap when I first said it. He even looked at me like I was lying and was really going on a secret rendezvous with my friends or something. But my ear was bugging the hell out of me and I had to do something about it before I went bonkers.

I had thoughts of some bean or some bug stuck in my ear. Perhaps it was growing sprouts or something. One of the girls I work with had recently brought in a really gross popcorn kernel that had just been surgically removed from her son's ear. Yuck! I had thoughts of something like that in my ear.

So I headed to the local emergency care clinic. Because it definitely wasn't bad enough to go to go to the emergency room or anything. And this is exactly the type of situation those clinics were made for.

The last time I was at this place was when I had to take Chase in on a Sunday afternoon when the pediatrician's office is closed. That was the day of all days I was driving Jonathan's SUV and some lady slammed into his car while I was in the clinic and she didn't even bother to tell anyone. Geeze, you wonder about people sometimes.

Anyway, so I went into the clinic and filled out all the boring paperwork. And waited. And waited and waited and waited... I kept on seeing all these (and not to be too stuck up or anything) "seedy" looking people coming through. And they were all drinking gobs of water, Gatorade, etc. I'm thinking, "Is everyone dehydrated from the heat or something?" Then as I was waiting, other people would check in after me, wait a few minutes, get called to the back and then come out and go on their merry way. After seeing about 10 people do this, I was thinking, "Ok, what the hell is going on here? I've been here longer than these people!"

So finally I walked up to the reception area and asked if and when I was going to be seen and how come all these other people were bypassing me. She looked at me like I was a complete fool and informed me that all the people who had been coming in were there for drug tests. Doh!

So when I finally got in to see the doctor, he took one look at my ears and said it was one of the worst ear infections he had seen in a long time. To my knowledge I have never had an ear infection in my life. But now at least I can appreciate how Little Man and Skyler must feel when they have ear infections. Poor babies.

So pretty much the rest of the weekend I didn't feel like doing much of anything. I got absolutely no housework done. I pretty much stayed in my nightgown all weekend. Fun.

Sunday I was feeling pretty bad for the kids being stuck in the house all weekend, so Jonathan took Skyler to the water park. She had just recently completed her second round of swimming lessons and Jonathan was proud to come home and tell me that she had learned quite a bit. She can now jump off the boards/boat without a lifejacket and swim approximately 10 feet. She can also swim pretty far under water. So we are very proud of her. Now we just have to work on Little Man's swimming abilities. He isn't afraid of water at least.

This week has been really busy at work. So busy in fact when I had a small hearing yesterday, I actually had to put my small group in a very small empty office. We have this absolutely gorgeous conference room that seats approx. 30 with top knotch AV equipment. We also have a huge training classroom upstairs and we have a small conference room that seats about 6. So we have all this space and every room was in use. I felt really bad placing them in basically a closet, but what could I do. They just laughed it off.

Today we have our Executive Committee in the building. So since we have had a group in house every day this week we have had free food. We have catering brought in for our big meetings. And after the meetings are over, staff gets to eat the leftovers. Yum!

I can't believe its almost time for our vacation. One more week! I don't even want to start thinking about packing. I always end up forgetting something. And I know, I am starting a packing list. But I inevitably forget something or another. Especially since I am responsible for packing for the entire family. I do make Jonathan pack his own clothes though. He can at least do that.

So yesterday I came home after a 9 1/2 hour shift at work. I was bone tired and the kids were fighting, yelling, slapping each other...you get the general drift. Jonathan doesn't usually come home until 7:00 or 7:30 each night. By that time I've already fed, played with and bathed the kids. So then he called and said he was going to go help someone move some furniture (it just so happened to be the same guy who is allowing us to use his beach house). So he did that and he called about 8:30 and said he was going to go out to dinner with his boss. And I kind of lost it. I went on my little tirade about how I'm always home by myself all during the week with the kids.

So I decided right then and there that one day a week Jonathan is going to pick the kids up from daycare (on time), feed them dinner and bathe them. And I said I didn't want to have to call him and remind him. He should know it his day and be responsible and do it without being reminded. So there.

I think he was stunned for a few moments, but then he agreed! I mean he is the parent to. So he chose Fridays to pick the kids up. So now on Fridays I can do whatever I want until 7:00 or 7:30. Yippee! We'll see how long this lasts, huh? ;-)

So I guess I have rambled on long enough for one day. Hope everyone is having a good Hump Day! The weekend is almost here...... Until next time...
