Pieces of Us... | ||||
The Weekend... - Sunday, June 26, 2005 Well not much to talk about today. Our weekend was pretty uneventful. We really didn't do much of anything. Next weekend (the 4th of July) we are taking the boat and going home to Tennessee for a 4 day weekend. I dread getting on the roads for that one. Everybody and their brothers hit the highways on holiday weekends. We are stupid, just like them, and do ourselves. We usually like to go home over the 4th though because they have a really nice parade and my parents live right on the street that has the big parade. I was telling Jonathan yesterday that we should get all of our junk together, the kids clothes, old toys, etc. and take it home and have a hellacious yard sale on the day of the parade. But whether or not we will get off our asses and get the stuff together before next weekend... I don't see THAT one happening. Hell, I can't even remember what we did this weekend. Yesterday we watched a movie while the kids were napping. That's basically the only chance of peace we get on the weekends. We watched The Phone Booth. I give the movie a definite "thumbs down." The ending sucked and just sitting there watching this guy in a phone booth for an hour and a half was boring. I'm sure it was a cheap movie to make, no less. After an uneventful day of playing with kids, washing clothes and watching a movie we then took the kids to the water park. Skyler really enjoys going. This is the first year she can ride all of the slides and what not by herself. Of course we stand there and watch her at the bottom, but she can walk up to the kiddie slides and slide down all by herself now. She had a really good time. Jonathan had to into work this afternoon. Hopefully all these hours he has been putting in will come to an end after Tuesday. They are having their big grand opening of the new bays and it has been mid-year counts, so he has been working really long hours and he is really stressed. We've been lucky though, since he went back to the shop, he really hasn't had to work late or work on weekends. A complete change from when he was in the store. So I'm glad he is back in the shop. But sometimes I think he misses the challenges of the store. Before he left for work I took the kids out to drive their car. Here is a pic: Cruising Along Um, can't tell my kids are spoiled can you? No sirreee. I would have LOVED to have had a little car like this when I was growing up. I was deprived! Since I have absolutely nothing else of interest to talk about today. I'll just leave you with some pics I finally downloaded from the digital picture of our trip to Boone. I realized I didn't talk but like 5. And, unfortunately, I didn't even get one of the little cabin we stayed in. Bummer. "Don't take my damn picture! I'm Such a Liar... - Friday, June 24, 2005 I know, I know... I promised I would start writing in this journal more often, but damn my life is so busy! We'll start with how I spent my wonderful birthday Wednesday... Well I was off, so that was good. But I was off because I was SICK! Yes, sick on my birthday. How sucky is that? Skyler has been sick with a cold for over a week now and it finally hit me late Tuesday night/early Wednesday morning. I work up in a cold sweat with a massive sore throat AND my stomach was cramping like mad. So Jonathan took the kids to school/babysitters and I called in sick and spent the entire day in my pajamas lounging in bed and watching television. What a wonderful way to spend my birthday, huh? Jonathan was also working a double because they are having their yearly counts at work, so the babysitter offered to keep both kids overnight. That was a Godsend, let me tell you. So I had an entire 24 hours to recuperate and not worry about the kids. We are so lucky that we have an understanding babysitter. People don't realize how lucky they are to have family around. We have absolutely no family that lives near us, so having a really good babysitter is so nice. And may I mention that my hubby even forgot it was my birthday until 10:30 last night when I mentioned it. He has been under some major stress at work and had forgotten all about it. Now don't go getting excited or anything, because we had actually celebrated my birthday on Saturday with a trip to eat dinner at Maggianos and an AWESOME birthday gift of a new iPod Photo!! I thought Jonathan was going to buy me this new Tiffany necklace I had been wanting, but he surprised me with the iPod instead! Let me just say I LOVE my iPod!! I spent most of Sunday afternoon (well when the kids were napping anyway) ripping our CD collection onto my iPod. Basically I have about 60% of the CDs ripped. It just amazes me that I can put our ENTIRE CD collection on this little bitty piece of technology! Not to mention a lot of my digital photos. Jonathan thinks I am obsessed with the iPod. I'm just amazed. It holds like 7,500 songs! Why have I not purchased one of these little babies before now! Of course I have loaded the poor thing down with about 60% 80's music. You can't tell I just turned 35 yesterday can you? I feel so old! We have an intern who is working with me who is 18 years old. I was sitting here thinking this morning, "She was born in 1987. I was graduating high school the next year." Nah seriously, I'm not that concerned about getting older. I don't feel 35 and most people tell me I don't look 35, so I guess that's a good thing. Another thing we did this weekend was have the kids' pictures made. We took them to a new picture place and they turned out AWESOME! Uh-hum, I'm not going to brag here.... Oh hell yeah, I AM going to brag! But I have two BEAUTIFUL babies, if I do say so myself. Check them out for yourself. Aren't they absolutely gorgeous?!? Can't tell I'm a proud Momma can you? Um, no. We didn't do a whole lot this past weekend because Skyler was sick. She was so sick on Friday we had to take her to the babysitter instead of school. She missed one of her little school field trips. Since she was sick we didn't get to go to the water park any this weekend. She really enjoys going to the water park. She did feel well enough to go out to dinner and do some shopping on Saturday, but since she was still coughing and had a runny nose, we figured it best not to take her swimming. Skyler is enjoying my iPod also. As a matter of a fact, she has stolen it from me more than once. She loves listening to music. She hasn't figured out how to run it yet. I just have to set it on shuffle for her and she is good to go. Believe it or not one of Skyler's favorite songs is Video Killed the Radio Star. Talk about a major 80's song there! I remember that was the first video that came on MTV. Yes my friends, I was actually watching MTV when it first aired. I can't remember if I was 10 or 11, but I remember the excitement of getting cable and tuning in to the first day of MTV. My how MTV has changed since then. Hell, they don't even play videos anymore. It's mostly shows. At least we have digital cable so we get MTV2 and the VH1 channel that plays a lot of older music. But don't you guys remember how fun it was watching all those old 80's videos? One of my favorites was Dexy's Midnight Runner song, Come on Eileen. I still love that song! Have any of you been watching that new show called Hit Me Baby One More Time? Talk about making you feel old there! Don't some of the performers looks sooo old!?!? I watched A Flock of Seagulls and Loverboy the other night and they looked horrible and sounded horrible. But some of them have actually sounded pretty good. Cameo was great last week and so was Vanilla Ice. Geeze, I can't believe I am sitting here talking about this. But anyway, I do like the show. Am I weird or what? Uh, don't answer that question. A special thanks to Caroline! Thanks for wishing me a happy b-day girl! You and my mother were the only two people who actually remembered! That's pretty sad isn't it? I guess once you turn about 25, birthdays don't mean squat anymore. Well I hate to cut this one short, but I have to pick up the kiddies. Hopefully I will be able to update this later. Until we meet again....I'm Such a Liar... Monica; It's Been Awhile.... - Tuesday, June 14, 2005 I know, I know... It's been awhile since my last post. Things were going so smoothly and then all of a sudden, we got sooo busy. Skyler is back safe and sound from Mamaw and Papaw's house. She gave them absolute HELL while she was there. I thought my mom was going to have a serious breakdown while she was there. I just don't know what her problem is sometimes. I guess Skyler knows she can walk all over my parents and they will let her get away with murder or something. But when she gets home, it's back to the real world girlfriend. She knows mommy and daddy, "Don't play that game." I think all in all, she just really missed us. She has her routine that she goes through at home and when we send her off to TN with my parents, that is thrown all to hell. She also enjoys going to school and seeing her friends, etc. and she is basically by herself at their house. My parents came to NC yesterday for reasons I won't even begin to go into at the moment, and when we pulled up and she saw them sitting on our porch, she screamed, "Mommy, I don't WAAAAANT to go back to Mamaw and Papaw's house!!" I was like, "Skyler, you don't have to. They are just coming for a visit." She was all freaked out she was going back or something. Tonight is her gymnastics class. She hasn't been in like 3 weeks because she was in TN, etc. so it will be good for her to get back into the swing of things. Jonathan and I took our little weekend getaway to Boone weekend before last. It was wonderful. Three whole nights alone with no kids and no work and no ringing phones. Ah, it was heaven. Our cell phones didn't work in the mountains, so Jonathan couldn't even call work. It was great! We slept late, went to movies, went to the mountains, did some shopping, etc. It was a lot of fun. We really needed that alone time after everything we have been going through here lately. We really had a good time. We basically just "chilled." We saw a couple of movies, The Longest Yard (which I highly recommend) and Monster-In-Law (which I do NOT recommend). I don't get Jonathan to the movies very often to see a so-called "chick flick" and I kind of hate I wasted my once every 5 years on Monster-In-Law. It basically blew. Normally I can sit throgh a Jennifer Lopez movie, but this one was not very good at all. The Longest Yard was awesome though. It was pretty funny because at one point in the movie Adam Sandler says something like they usually play some crip/small (I can't remember the exact words he used) team like Appalachian State or something. It was a definite put down to Appie State, but we just happened to be sitting in the only movie theater in Boone (where Appalachian State is!). There were big boos and moans from the mostly 16 year old audience. I guess you had to be there. We went to Grand*father Mountain, toured Blowing Rock, slept in every day, watched lots of DVDs, went to the movies, ate out, etc. It was a great break from the stresses of work and kids. We really needed it. I have some pics from our trip, but I haven't downloaded them yet. I'll include them in a later post. I am so slack when it comes to downloading pictures from my digital camera. It's really easy, but I just seem to never have time to sit down and home and fool with it. Mom and Bob met us on that Monday to bring Skyler back to us. She was so glad to see us. She made us promise her we would not send her back to mamaw and papaw's house. I kind of felt bad for mom and Bob. They treat her like gold, but I guess she is just in that stage where she wants her mommy and daddy and she doesn't like us messing up her "routine." We met them at Tweetsie that morning. Thomas the Train was at Tweetsie that week, so Skyler got to see Sir Topham Hat and ride Thomas. She loved it. She was really good and we all had a great time. It's hard to believe that summer is already here. We bought summer passes to a water park and we visited it for the first time last weekend. Chase had a blast splashing in the water. It was kind of funny because Little Man hardly ever sits still, but when I sat him in the water he was like, "Um, what the heck is this?" He wanted to sit on my lap until he got used to it and then he was all ready to go once he got used to it. Jonathan had a time keeping up with Skyler. She isn't afraid of any of the slides or anything this year, so he had to run around after her all afternoon. It was good for him, he got lots of exercise! My parents are actually in town this week. We are having a "crisis" with my brother and we had to call them in to intervene. No drugs or anything like that. It's sad when you have to get involved with your 23 year old brother's life, but we really thought some things needed to be addressed. I won't even go into the details about it. But it has not been fun that's for sure. Since they are leaving tomorrow to head back to TN we thought we would take advantage of having some babysitters and go out to dinner and a movie tonight. I know we had 4 whole days to ourselves a few weeks ago, but you've got to take advantage while you can! I think we are going to go see Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I mean how hot are those two! Heck, I'm a woman and I think Angelina Jolie is hot. Not to mention how hot Brad is. Whew! It looks like a pretty good movie. I'll report on it later. Don't you just hate it when you haven't updated your journal for awhile and then when you start typing you have so much to say, but you can't remember what you want to say. That just pisses me off. One thing that happened the other day is I caught up with an old online pal. He is a pilot in the Reserves and I hadn't heard from him in years. It was great to catch up on him. He leads such an interesting life. He sent lods of pics of his travels over the last few months. How exciting would it be to be a pilot and fly all over the world?!? Speaking of pilots, when I was 19 I actually applied to be an flight attendant. Jobs were really hard to come by in the 1980's and getting into the airline industry was even harder. I actually traveled to Atlanta, GA for some interviews. The first interview was a complete "cattle call." I mean LITERALLY. There were about 350 people for 17 jobs. They walked through the room and just said, yes and no to people based on their looks. That would NEVER fly in this day and age, but that's how they did it back then. It was like a 3 day process of tests, interviews, etc. I got down to the top 25, but didn't get one of the 17 positions. :-( Ah, how different my life may have been if I had gotten that job, eh? Ok, so I have rambled on long enough about absolutely nothing. I'm going to try and start updating every day again or at least every other day if I can. Because this waiting several weeks just blows. I don't make any sense! Anyway, enough for now. Until we meet again... Just a Swingin... |
