Another Broken Tooth - Tuesday, February 01, 2005 Can someone PLEASE sign my guestbook, so I know I am loved!?!?! I cannot believe this, but Skyler broke her tooth off again! I have to explain this story to you, because its the wonders of 3 years olds, you know. It all started on Sunday evening when Lil Miss decided to not go to sleep. She has been giving us trouble going to bed her lately. She'll climb up in her bed and we'll walk out of the room and for the next 2 hours she is, "Daddy, give me a drink of water." "Daddy, I need to go pee." "Mommy, I need a band-aid on my boo-boo." "Daddy, can you please change my CD?".... Well you get the point. So even if she goes to bed at 8:30, its after 10:00 and sometimes 11:00 before she finally falls asleep. So Sunday evening I decided to teach her a lesson, her most precious thing is listening to her music as she falls asleep. Its a big deal to pick out which music she wants to listen to that night. After she has peed, brushed her teeth and changed into her nightgown, we've read a story, then its time to pick out the music. You know 3 year old's (especially girls) and their "nightly rituals." So after putting her to bed and putting on her Dora CD, we left the room. Well she hollered for this that and the other for over 2 hours! It was after 11:00 p.m. and I finally just went into her room, unplugged the boombox and took all of her CD's. Well, all hell broke loose. Girlfriend started kicking and screaming and carrying on. So I politely turned off the nightlight and shut the door. Eventually she fell asleep, but hollered for her daddy continuously throughout the night. (She knows not to holler at me because I do not come when I know she is perfectly fine). Jonathan was not happy that she kept him up half the night. But the next morning she was told her music privileges had been revoked until further until she could prove to us that she could go to bed "like a big girl" with no crying, hollering at mommy and daddy all night, etc. So last night it was bedtime and, of course, girlfriend wanted her boombox back. I politely told her, "Not until you can go to bed like a big girl with no crying." Well she just totally lost her cool. She stripped (yes, stripped and took off all of her clothes), threw herself on the ground, screamed, cried, banged her fists onto the carpet, pulled her own hair, etc. I mean we are talking full-fledged TEMPER TANTRUM city here! Now don't get the wrong idea, she doesn't have full blown temper tantrums often, but this one was definitely a "doozy." I just sat there and stared at her and told her when she was finished with her little temper tantrum to let me know. After she finished and stood up, I noticed half of her front tooth was missing! Good God! So, now its back to the dentist for us tomorrow. If I can remember, I am going to take a pic of Skyler's tooth so you can see. It looks awful! Needless to say, after she was finished with the temper tantrum her daddy came upstairs and told her that if she didn't go to bed without another word, her butt was grass and she would NEVER get her music back. Well girlfriend climbed up in bed and never said another word. Ah, the joys of toddlerhood. If Chase is a pigheaded as Skyler is, we are in some deep shi-. ~~~~~~~
So that was how my night went. We did go out to eat at Outback yesterday. At work last week I received a $50.00 gift certificate from one of our members. Just because you know I am SO damn nice! That was really sweet that he sent a gift to me. Especially since we don't get anything for Christmas from work. No bonus, gift or nothing. That kind of sucks, but we are a non-profit, so I guess that's the way it goes. I love my job, so I won't complain too much about not getting anything for Christmas. Well not too much anyway! Some of the journals I have read here lately, they go on and on and bitch and moan and groan about work. So I can say I don't have to do that very often. I'm pretty happy in my job and feel lucky to actually "enjoy" it! Of course when you get to travel and stay at places like Pinehurst, The Grove Park Inn, The Homestead, Loews Ventanna Canyon, etc. Who wouldn't like it! Yes, I am so spoiled. The bad thing is, I get to stay at all these luxurious resorts for work, but when we travel as a family, we stay at the Days Inn! What a difference! I was raised on family motels, so no biggie there. But it is nice to stay in places where you have a fluffy bathrobe, chocolates on the pillows at night and turn down service. He--, I didn't even know what turn down service was until I started working at this job! So I have been spoiled, just a bit. ~~~~~~
So yesterday I went to Borders and got a book on New Orleans. You know me, if we are taking a trip somewhere, I want to pre-plan it and make the most if it. You can't visit New Orleans for 1 1/2 days and not visit some of the sites! There is so much to do there, I can't even begin to decide where to start. We will get there Friday at 2:00 p.m. and we will board the ship around noon on Sunday. So that basically doesn't give us a lot of time. Does anyone have any suggestions on what you absolutely, positively can't miss in New Orleans? We have been in New Orleans before on a cruise in 2003. We were there for all of 6 hours, but did quite a bit in the short time we were there. Of course you can't be a "cheesy tourist" to NOLA without eating some beignets at Cafe' Du Monde. And you absolutely must eat at Emeril's. And no trip to NOLA would be complete without visiting Bourbon Street! And you absolutely MUST take the carriage ride around the French Quarter. And last, but not least, you must visit Jackson Square. Even if it is 2:00 in the afternoon! So considering we were only in port for 6 hours, I think we accomplished a lot. Thanks to my pre-planning, no less. Jonathan says he doesn't like going on "vacation" with me because I keep our itinerary so full, he doesn't get any rest! Vacations aren't for rest! They are for sight seeing! Come on now! We must get our money's worth you know! ~~~~~~ Caroline mentioned that she hadn't seen a picture of Jonathan on my site. Its not that often that I take a picture of him. I think the last picture I actually have of him was on our cruise in 2003. And don't even think your going to find any pictures of me any time soon. I'm ALWAYS the one behind the camera. Jonathan never takes pictures or video. I have to beg him to use the video camera at Christmas. Anyway, here is a picture of Jonathan. Although its not very good.

When my son does that I grab him and wrap my arms around him and hold him. I firmly say I will speak to him when he calms down. Eventually he does. Tell her it's okay to be angry but yelling and tantrums are not acceptable. Then when she is calm explain to her she will have her boombox back when she can go to sleep nicely.

What is it about girls and their drama tantrums? Amber can play it hard at times! I look at her and tell or push her in her room and let her finish it in there! Then i say when you can calm down you can come out!
I can remember when Darin fell out of my mother and fathers RV and chipped his 2 front teeth...well that lead to the teeth on the opposite side of the 2 teeth rotting away. so when he was 2 and a half i had to take him to a child's dentist to have 4 teeth removed! We called him dracula until he was 7 and finally!!!!!! got teeth! I never thought he would have them again.
It was years later that i was able to get him to the dentist again. Poor guy...but now he handles it like a little man.
Sorry I have never been to New Orleans, never took an interest to it. Soon i would like to take the kids to florida. Hopefully that will happen.
Thanks for the pic of your hubby.
You did the right thing with Skyler....I wish kids came with manuals...or even better an on/off switch..lol
My kids are the same way for bed. Put them in at 8 and hopefully by 11 they are asleep.
Oh well....They will have kids one day...And then they will know what we went thru.
Later Monica...take care
i tried to sign your guesbook but did not respond...hmmmm
When I tried to sign your guestbook, I just got this error message: "Oops! Sorry, this user's guestbook has not been set up to receive messages yet." I have no idea what that might mean for you! Silly technology! lol.
Don't you love full-on tantrums?!? The best thing was to walk away - without an audience, it stops them pretty quickly. It's ghood that you set some strong firm and reasonable 'boundaries' for her re. falling asleep with her Cd player - it's good - but really hard to do, hey?! I love the way she already knows which parent to 'focus' on as the 'weaker' one who'll give-in quicker! hahahahaa... time to tie your man down when she starts doing that! hahahaha.
Sorry to hear about her tooth... rats... she's a cutie all the same tho.
